John L. Skau

Skau received his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan and his BFA, Summa Cum Laude from Northern Illinois University. Skau is an active member of the Archdale community and is very involved with the Archdale Public Library. “My sculptures are my way of celebrating the rich legacy of patterns and colors of world cultures… Each of my sculptural baskets is different from all others, and that’s the part I love. That’s what engages me as an artist,” says Skau.

He has exhibited in venues across the country including the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, DC, The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, The American Craft Museum in NYC, del Mano Gallery in LA, Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, Ghost Ranch Gallery in New Mexico, the US Embassy in Thailand, The Ohio Craft Museum, Penland School of Crafts, NC (where he has also taught), and the Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC.
