Mildred Hayward

Painter Mildred Hayward was renowned for her realistic renderings of flowers. Rich in color and delicately contoured, her still lifes demonstrate her knowledge of the botanical properties and individuality of each flora species. “Although the lavishness of her color combinations is one of her striking characteristics, Mildred Hayward’s feeling for form and composition is so strong that even in black and white her pictures can move hearts,” one critic said. Hayward was deeply spiritual and endeavored to use her paintings to help others, as she believed she “was given the power to paint them by the guiding hand of spirit.”
