Lala Schnee

Helen Louise “Lala” Schnee was an artist who had been curator and chairman for the last 10 years of the Friendship Gallery. Mrs. Schnee’s prints, serigraphs, paintings and other works were exhibited at the Foundry Gallery, where she was a founding member, and at embassies and other locations abroad.
She was a resident artist at the Rockville Arts Place. While serving as art director of the Office of Civil Defense in Washington in the 1940s, her work included design of the Civil Defense triangle insignia and the insignia of the Air Force Reserve.

Mrs. Schnee, a resident of Potomac, had also accompanied her husband to Foreign Service posts in Argentina, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Egypt and Burma.

She was a native of Staten Island, N.Y., and a graduate of the Pratt Institute.
