Crystal Gregory

Crystal Gregory explores the juxtaposition of delicacy and strength by integrating industrial materials— such as metal, drywall, concrete, or glass—with the structural patterns of textiles. “By pairing these seemingly opposite worlds together” and using cloth construction as her fundamental center, she says, “I invert material stereotypes, using the ‘delicate’ material to exhibit strength or exposing the ‘structural’ materials’ instabilities. These gestures allow for a reinterpretation of material identities, and the viewer is left to confront their understanding of these everyday utilities.”
