Impressionist artist Steve Penley is known for his historical and contemporary icon paintings, rendered in bold, vivid colors and often done in quick, rapid expressive brushstrokes. The subject matter of Penley’s work is largely rooted in Americana—specifically significant moments in history and prominent cultural figures—reimagined for a postmodern era. “I’m not naïve about America and its past, but I also see the best in it. I don’t have an agenda, I’m really just painting paintings,” said Penley.
Penley studied art at the School of Visual Arts, New York, and at the University of Georgia, Athens. He has created projects for Fox News and major companies such as Coca-Cola, AirTran/Southwest, and Kaiser Permanente, as well as several U.S. Presidents.
