Morris Dorenfeld

Dorenfeld received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, and was awarded a Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship on 1998. Exhibits include CMCA in Rockport, Icon Gallery in Brunswick, and the Portland Museum of Art.

Moving to the coast of Maine in 1978 brought a change in life style, an attempt to live in balance with nature, a renewal. Designing and weaving tapestries became a new means of personal expression. The weavings pertain to the symmetry of reflections, mirrored images, the abstract distillation of land and seascape. The result appears joyous, fresh, primitive, but yet modern. The simple strength of this ancient art form is to be experienced, much like a painting, for its own visual power and force of statement.
