Mónica Ferreras de la Maza

Mónica Ferreras de la Maza is one of the Dominican Republic’s most celebrated mixed-media artists. In her series, Una Gota de tu Oceano, the intricate, highly-detailed, nature of her recent paintings is on display. Her seemingly abstract paintings are in fact largely influenced by and evocative of the places and experiences that have helped shape Ferraras’s life. Unsurprisingly, much of her work suggests the sea and landscapes of her native country.

Discussing her paintings, she has said that they “represent the self, that part of everyone that is always there no matter what. What struggles you have been going through in life or how lost you feel in a moment of your life. But that inner energy and life is always there.” It is as though her paintings convey a hidden, more honest aspect of the human experience that is vibrant, complex, and colorful.
