Joelle Ford – Artist’s Statement – Art in Embassies

My parents endured the Depression, and believed value could be found in most everything. This belief was instilled in me, and it has become the basis for my work. I utilize found objects and items that are thought to have little value – “idle art”. Material is found out doors while taking a walk, purchased at garage sales and thrift shops, as well as given to me by family and friends.

My work is diverse in size and content. I am interested in multiples and layering and have made large installations as well as small collages. Sometimes it takes years to accumulate enough items for a project, and plans usually change several times. Searching for new ways of making art and incorporating unusual material is an on-going process for me.
