Christo

A pioneer of environmental art, Christo conceived, planned, and oversaw the execution of monumental outdoor installations that transcend the boundaries of conventional sculpture and architecture. Collaborating with his wife, Jeanne-Claude, Christo temporarily transformed urban and natural landscapes, undertaking such projects as erecting thousands of saffron-curtained gates throughout Central Park in New York and encasing Paris’s Arc de Triomphe in swathes of white fabric. Due to the cost and logistical complexity of these ventures, Christo’s projects often took many years to complete.
