Charles Craig

Charles Craig was born in Morgan City, Ohio on a farm and at age nineteen he made his first trip West up the Missouri River living for four years with various Native American tribes and getting as far as Montana. After art studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (1872-73), Craig returned to the West in 1881 eventually settling in Colorado Springs. The artist is known for his accuracy in details in his depiction of Native Americans, particularly the Ute tribe of Southern Colorado.
