Rosemary Borst McLean was a painter whose abstract works are characterized by their swirling, bold brushwork and marbling effects. In describing her paintings, she mused, “I compare them to music. Whoever hears music does not stop to worry about what the composer had in mind when he wrote his song, but rather the impact of the music on the individual. To me, music is the color of sound [just] as color is the music of light. And this is what I try to express in my paintings—music in color.”
