Lori Hawkins’s photography occupies the space between news and documentary practice, informing viewers while prompting reflection and action. Hawkins began her career as a professional documentary photographer in 2001, working at Kodak and VII Photo. For this exhibition, she chose images from her personal archive that embody the Americana theme. She writes, “The images come from different places and moments: streets in Washington, D.C., riverbanks in New York, and other public spaces where people gather, pass through, celebrate, wait, and live their lives. For me, Americana is not one image or one idea. It is layered, personal, and changing.”
