David Lenz’s photorealistic paintings rely heavily on close observations of the world around him. He creates his works by sketching in pencil or oil, photographing the sketches, then refining and changing the images as he references them while painting with small, fine-pointed brushes on a warmly tinted canvas. His work Sam and the Perfect World won first place in the National Portrait Gallery’s inaugural Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition in 2006.
