Paul Gerben

Paul Gerben has spent his thirty-year career engaged in mixed media, photography, and sculpture. Employing traditional and digital media in his practice, Gerben has created a distinct, refined body of work that ranges from the abstract to the surreal. In his series of twentieth-century pop-culture icons, he transforms images into textured, colorful arrangements influenced by rock-and-roll bands such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, as well as by overlooked details from life like a “rust-covered phone booth splashed with graffiti or the environmental erosion of a city—all things of potential beauty that an untrained eye would overlook at first glance.”
