Helena Almeida

Helen Almeida (1934-2018) was a multidisciplinary artist who rose to prominence in the 1970s as one of the leading figures of performance and conceptual art in Portugal. Her black and white photographs often depict her wearing sober dark clothes, involved in an action—either connected to a performance or to a staged choreography. With the use of paint or colored pigment she used to intervene the surface of a canvas she photographed.
