Born and raised in Miami, Cuban American artist Alex Nuñez creates vibrant mixed-media paintings that explore her surroundings and personal experiences, combining expressive color with experimental materials. Working in a spontaneous and intuitive process, Nuñez builds up her textured canvases on the floor, pouring brightly hued paint, drawing rapidly in chalk pastel and oil stick, then finishing with such materials as glitter, crystals, and flecks of gold leaf. Describing her practice, she explains, “Ultimately, I strive to create art that bridges the sensory and the symbolic, celebrating the beauty and resilience of the natural world.”
