Ann Cathrin November Høibo lives and works in Oslo and Kristiansand, Norway. Her education includes a Master of Arts Degree and Post-Graduate Studies at Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 2010-2011; a Master of Arts Degree at The National College of the Arts / Department Art Academy, Oslo, Norway, 2009-2011; and a Bachelor of Arts Degree at National Academy of Art and Handcraft, Department of Textile, Oslo, Norway, 2005-2008.
Høibo’s handwoven tapestries of primarily beige wool are laced with torn-up jersey and nylon strands in spreading forms in red, soft pink, deep blue, white, several grays and black. Hinting at an abstract painting sans paint, while also suggesting landforms seen from above or a watery cascade, her pieces are quiescent and supple as well as agitated and jarring, with their rough, uneven surface and tangled colors.
