Allan D'Arcangelo

Allan D’Arcangelo was known for his straight-edged, abstract paintings of roads, freeway signs, and cars. Like many first-generation pop artists, D’Arcangelo’s early oeuvre featured symbols of Americana—specifically automotive iconography—until the 1970s, when it shifted towards geometric images of the open road leading to unknown places. “My most profound experiences of landscape were looking through the windshield,” he said.
