Sigmund Menkes

Sigmund Menkes’s ouevre includes figural compositions, portraits, nudes, still lifes, and landscapes. Women depicted in interiors are a frequent motif, their approximated shapes surrounded by fluid, bending contour. He also frequently painted scenes depicting Jewish religious rituals and rabbis. In addition, Menkes created a moving series of World War II paintings depicting Jews enclosed in the Warsaw Ghetto.
