Sarah Hinckley

Sarah Hinckley lives and works here in New York City with a studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Her paintings are in the corporate collections of General Electric, Pfizer, the Federal Reserve Bank, and in private collections throughout the country.

Hinckley grew up on Cape Cod where she lived just a short walk from the marsh and water. Her work is inspired by the memories of these landscapes, as well as by the the work of Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, and the formalist color paintings of the 1960s. She studied at California College of Arts & Crafts in the early 70’s and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where she found the means to challenge herself as a painter, then to Columbia University where she received an MFA in painting.
