Ruth Cyril

Ruth Cyril was an experimental printmaker, designer, and painter. First influenced by English abstract expressionist printmaker Stanley William Hayter, her prints evolved and achieved “sculptural depth by introducing techniques she practiced in jewelry design.” When applying elements of jewelry making to her plates, she exposed some to “violent open-biting in the acid bath and scratched stiff wire brushes to create semi-abstract and atmospheric effects.”
