Richard Nazzaro

Richard’s paintings are included in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the country. One of his paintings was acquired for the Pfizer Corporate Collection, in their first purchase of art for their Central Research facility.

Richard is an Elected Artist and past Member of the Board of Directors at the Lyme Art Association and Mystic Art Association. He served as President of the Lyme Art Association.

Formal study in art is mixed with different perspectives to bring him to his present approach to creating paintings. A science and engineering background contribute to his understanding of the technical aspects of art – particularly in the areas of materials, color and light. Extensive studies of photography, including a mastery of darkroom technique and the execution of numerous photographic portrait commissions served as a starting point for his understanding of composition and image design.

Richard has attended art courses at the University of Connecticut, and the Lyme Academy, College of Fine Art. He has designed automation and color control systems for the printing industry, during which time, he received formal training in printing technology and color science through the Rochester Institute of Technology.

He was granted an Art Residency under the Urban Artists Initiative, a three year residency funded by the National Endowment of the Arts, the Connecticut Legislature, and the Institute for Community Research in partnership with the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. He was the recipient of grants for entrepreneurship training at the University of Hartford under the auspices of the NEA, ICR and CCC&T, with follow on grants which he applied to refining his skills in portraiture.
