Olga Doi

My subject is the horse removed from the world to an ideal place. With moving, living lines, rising and falling, interacting rhythmically, generating harmonies like passages in a musical composition, I express the horse, motions and emotions I intimately know and honor in the many centuries of my ancestors and horses in Europe and Japan. From small icons that can be hand-held, for a particularly personal experience, to the black and gold panels capable of illuminating a great hall, my paintings, like mantras for a meditation, reveal the equine essence as human concepts and feelings.
