Olazone Soukpatumvane

Vientiane native Olazone Soukpatumvane’s works are replete with symbolism and imagery from Buddhist and Laotian artistic traditions. Her works tell stories in the method of earlier traditions of painting, in which figures act out distinct narratives.

While we are pulled in by the stories she tells, it is Soukpatumvane’s masterful use of color and her stylized architectural and vegetal forms that play leading roles in her work. These two elements act as both the setting and the soul of her works, calling to mind the unique beauty of Laos and the Laotian people.
