Michael Booker

Of his work, Michael Booker writes that “Hip Hop music, African wax fabrics, and the quilts of Gee’s Bend give form and guidance to the figures and patterns, encompassing African American history, culture, and mysticism.” Based in Maryland, Booker is Assistant Professor of Art at Montgomery College, Takoma Park, Maryland. He received his bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from Mississippi State University, Starkville, and a master of fine arts degree in studio art from University of Maryland, College Park. Booker has exhibited at the Arlington Arts Center, Virginia; Prince George’s African American Museum and Cultural Center, Brentwood, Maryland; and Morton Fine Art, Washington, D.C.
