John Lorence

For years, I have been involved with a wide variety of painting subjects and techniques. Early on in any new work, a sketchbook records precise drawings and/or multiple images of a subject; then there are schemes for composition; and then the specific ideas and details. All of this is my source including plein aire observations.

I have painted the still life, the landscape, non-objective abstract concepts and also the figure. Generally, I relate more to the landscape than other topics because of influences from my childhood and changeable garden. I have travelled to many places in the USA as well as in Central America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa – and those landscapes with shape, line, and color, have made their imprint on me.
