Janaki Lennie

I work to reconcile romantic, art historical notions of landscape with the reality of the increasingly urban environment.

I was born in Melbourne, Australia and raised in the coastal suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, arrived in the United States in 1994 and currently live and work in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I earned a BFA from Curtin University, Western Australia and MFA from the University of Houston, Texas.

My work has been shown in solo exhibitions in Australia, Germany, Canada and the US and been included in exhibitions at; the Museo de la NaciĆ³n, Lima Peru, Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, Newfoundland, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Shanghai Museum of Art, Cornell Museum of Rollins College, Florida; Embassy of Australia in Washington. It is represented in the collections of Dallas Museum of Art, The Rooms Provincial Gallery, Art Bank Australia, Curtin University, University of Houston, Federal Reserve Bank Dallas, Rollins College, Florida, as well as corporate and private collections in the US and Australia.

Awards include; fellowships at the MacDowell Colony, the Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship, Telecom Australia Open Drawing Prize, Art in Embassies Program, Creative Capital Professional Development Fellowship. My work has been published in several art journals.
