David Lacayo

David Humberto Ordóñez Lacayo is a Guatemalan painter and sculptor who seeks to highlight the beauty, values, and often overlooked history of the Mayan peoples. In particular, his work frequently references the vibrant colors and intricate patterns of Mayan textiles, an indigenous artform that predates the colonial era. Each textile demonstrates not only the fiber artist’s creativity and dexterity, but it also contains embedded visual codes that communicate information regarding the wearer’s social status and spiritual beliefs.
