Cornelia Everhart

According to family history this simple album quilt was designed and put together by Cornelia Everhart for her wedding to Reverend Henry Wissler in 1858. Her daughter relates that she did not quilt it until 1907, at the age of 72. A similar quilt was made in 1848 by a relative, Mary Shower. Cornelia and Mary were both born in 1836, lived their lives in Manchester and attended Manchester Academy. Cornelia had direct and easy access to fashionable goods from Baltimore and may have traveled there herself. They died within three years of each other. Manchester, Cornelia’s hometown, was located on the Reisterstown Turnpike, a major route to Baltimore.
