“Iridescent Silt is one of five paintings that make up the thirteen-panel suite, Journey Home. Exploring the 2,340-mile path of the Mississippi River from its source in the lake region of northern Minnesota to its vast, marshy delta in southeast Louisiana, the suite was painted in a fishing camp built on pilings over the water of these marshes. I had been living here for several years, annually traveling old US highways back to a cabin in the north woods of my home state, Minnesota, when it dawned on me that the river and I shared a journey.”
