Sculptor Christian Gonçalves tries to create works that are static in their presence yet fluid in their form: shapes evocative of atmosphere and presence that are part of an ambiguous thread. With a minimalist approach, these meticulously planned works resound and resonate with images culled from the ancient realm of forms. By choosing mainly formal solutions, he creates intense personal moments masterfully made using rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal to lure the viewer into unconscious archetypes. His works reference recognizable form and are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted.
