Andrea Belag

I am a painter and have had a studio practice in New York for 35 years. I work in several 2--dimensial materials including: photography, digital lithography, cyanotype, wood--block printing, watercolor and gouache as well as my primary focus: on oil paint on linen and wood.

I have had numerous exhibitions of my work in galleries and Museums in the United States and Europe. Also, I have received recognition from the Guggenheim Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and Rockefeller Foundation, Bellagio Center.

I have developed my recent work with both agency and chance choosing my colors from design, fashion as well as art history. I employ knives, spatulas, rags, and, large paint brushes. My recent work is as influenced by Kyoto’s Zen gardens as contemporary painting.

In my painting, I create the illusion of space, through light and color that enhances the experience of viewing a 2--dimensional surface.

I have been awarded a commission from the MTA Arts for Transit and Urban Design that will be fabricated in glass and installed 2017.
